105 A-Max myth buster
Happily, in my 700 .243 I can reach the lands within the confines of the magazine box with the 105 A-Max. Now to see if they will stabilize in the 1-9 twist.

I'd like to see you shoot a deer with it the long way, and see how deep it penetrates.

It would be killer on pronghorn.

They shot well in my 788 in .243 before I found out that they would not stabilize in it. 3/4" at 100 before I bed the action. Oh Well, I guess I can't shoot it any more! I have two friends that use the 105 and swear by them. The 95 SST worked for me.

I used A Max, by mistake, on argali a couple of years ago. Might as well have shoved a pencil through him. I'd really recommend against it.

You used a 105gr A Max on an Argali by mistake?

Doe, 6mm BR/105 amax, 2850mv, double lunged broadside, struggled to stay on feet, flopped over 25 yds or so from impact.

Oh, range, at the edge of a field, pre-lasered at 400 yds....

Golf ball sized exit. Seconds earlier, a buck dropped w/a spine shot, 200 yds, same load, DRT.

Headshot another at 45 paces as it was deep in the woods AT dusk and I did not want any tracking. It went straight down.

DEADLY bullet, when used w/in it's limitations. Those namely - at closer ranges, it'll blow. Long range, expands and penetrates much better.

Sounds just right to me!

I was under the impression the A Max was a target bullet and not designed for hunting?

My daughter and I shot the 140gr in .264 for several years from her 96 Mauser in 6.5x55.

It was the only bullet period we got to shoot an actual group and not a pattern. The chamber is such that I can set one on top of the case and close the bolt with nothing touching the lands and the bullet not stuck in the case.

I loaded them to around 2550fps to stay on the safe side of pressure with the old rifle, and they worked like flying light switches, everything they hit simply turned off.

We shot many hogs form almost point blank to out past 350yds and they dropped on the spot. Her first nice buck dropped to one from about 60 yards as well.

Like mentioned within the limits they work awesome, penetrate deep, and drop game like nobody's business. Push them however and your simply asking for trouble.

It will stabilize them, I've shot them in factory 700's in 243 before..no problem.
