What do you all consider the proper [not the fastest possible] projectile velocity for these long bullets. the Lapua Mega 155 travels at 2560 fps.

In their 2000 cataloque Norma advertised their ammunition in 6.5x55 as follows;

TXP LINE, SWIFT 156 grains velocity 2526 fps.
Alaska 156 grains velocity 2559 fps.
Vulkan 156 grains velocity 2644 fps.
Oryx 156 grains velocity 2559 fps.

The Vulcan ammunition is very accurate, 0.25 - 0.3 inch groups on a good day and never more than 0.75, in my out of the box T3 Tikka. clap
What a combination. Smiler
Do you wonder why I rave about Tikka rifles (retorical).

Not sure what max velocity is for the 160 gr bullet, but my long throated 22" barrel Howa pushes the 160 gr Sierra RN to about 2350 fps with 44.0 gr of Accurate Data 86 with Lapua brass and CCI-200 primers. It did manage to put 5 of them into an inch and a quarter at 100 yards. Good accuracy for that rifle from the bench. No pressure signs, easy bolt lift. May have to up the powder charge as I see Accurate's latest data for 3100 shows max charge of 46.0 gr.

Bullets are pretty worthless. All they do is hang around waiting to get loaded.

I have on order a few hundred of hte Lapua 155 grain Mega bullets. Does anyone have loads to duplicate the Lapua factory ammo?

333,

I think you'll find the Norma website helpful--if I remember right, they have a link to Lapua, and also post reloading data.

For a 160, I think 2400-2450 is plenty fast enough. I only get 2200 with the 160-grain from the 6.5X54mm Mannlicher/Schoenauer round.

The only reason I plan on trying to duplicate the loads from Lapua factory is so the sight-in of the express sights stays generally the same.

FWIW, The Swedes got about 2625fps with their 139 grain projectiles and about 2300fps with their 156 grain projectiles using military ammo in their long rifles. YMMV

This is the current Lapua load, and I have 5 boxes of loaded and three 100 piece boxes of bullets. I want the express sights regulated to this load. I only really want to duplicate this factory load. I have a line in to both Norma and Lapua.

Interesting ammo with a great looking projectile. These things should really penetrate!
