240 Weatherby on hogs??
Does anyone have some feedback on what the 240wm is like on hogs out to 250-300yds?
What is your prefered bullet?
Do you think it would much different to a .257roberts 120gn@2900fps?

Plenty of guys using 6mm's on pigs here . Secret is well placed shots . The .240 will certainly do the job .
Choose a strongly constructed projectile of 90 gns or more .

The hunting imperative was part of every man's soul; some denied or suppressed it, others diverted it into less blatantly violent avenues of expression, wielding clubs on the golf course or racquets on the court, substituting a little white ball for the prey of flesh and blood.

Depends on what you mean by "hogs". There is a big difference between 75 to 100lb meat hogs and a 300+ lb trophy boar. But in a 240, I would insist on a 100gr premium bullet. And I would prefer the Roberts, with a premium 120gr bullet (or larger caliber) for big hogs.

"olarmy" s right. All depends on what you call a "hog". While I do own a .240 Weatherby I have never used it on "hogs", got better cartridges to choose from. I have seen a 100 gr. Nosler Partition out of a 6mm Remington stopped by the gristle plate on a 250 pound Wild Boar(range was just over 200 yards). While the .240 is an excellent varmint/deer/Antelope cartridge I wouldn’t usE anything smaller than a .25-06 on “hogsâ€.

I use less on hogs. In days past I have taken them with the following cartridges:

.22 CB Short
.22 LR
.22 WMR
.22 Hornet
.257 Roberts
.30-30
.410
20 Ga
16 Ga
12 Ga

.38 Spcl

They aren't that tough to kill.

Just toying with the idea of the .240,but sounds wise to stick with the good o'l .270win/140gn premium@2950fps thanks for your feedback wave

For what it is worth I've used a 6/06 for years, the bullet I now use for all comers is the 85 TX. I'd give it a go and see what happens. I've zero doubt when you do your part it will do its...

Have fun hunting hogz

The guy who did the page for the latest Nosler book said

'and I can tell you that no hog is a match for a 100gr partition through the shoulders'

or similar.
