bigbore50ak243 win loaded with 70gr ballistic tips
any one have any experiance with 70gr ballistic tips and deer. id be using a handgun so they wouldnt be at rifle vilocity. thanks jason

Mark R DobrenskiJason it is my opinion that your load will work just fine-----myself and my buddies have shot somewhere above 50 head of deer,antelope and bear with said bullet running at 4000 out of our 6/06's. So I am confident that you'll have no problems with it.

HandloaderThe 70 grain Bt's should do fine for those boiler room shots but I would go with th 80 grain Nosler partition just to be safe. I have a good friend that lives dang near Nebraska on the Kansas side and has shot several good size whitetails with the 70 grain BT's but he has lost a few so I loaded him some 80 grain Partitions and he loves them. Just my 2 cents worth.

That bullet is about the worst choice one could make. Not only is the cartridge the minimum in a rifle but your using a pistol.
Go to Walmart and buy some 100 gr Powerpoints.

StonecreekWhile I'm not one of those "hard bullet"-"deep penentration"-"poke a hole through it so you can follow the blood trail" advocates, my experience with the 70 grain Ballistic Tip is that it explodes prarie dogs in a foam of red spray. As a result of this experience, I would expect lightning kills on even large deer when hit in the thorax without the need to pass through a shoulder (no, no bullet made of metal "blows up" on the skin or something as flimsy as a deer's rib). But I would also anticipate some messy and regretable failures if the need arises to penetrate the shoulder or reach the vitals from a difficult angle.
The 70 grain BT is not intended as a deer bullet. Use something else.

bigbore50aki was wanding ive got abunch of them and ive seen some factoury ammo that says 70gr bt are for deer/varmit.i no nosler say there a varmit bullet.
ive shoot 2 deer with a 243 win i used 85gr sierra bthp game kings. one went 50 yards and one fell over on the spot.
as for 243 being to small for deer i dont think so maybe at long range but the distance i would shoot one its just fine. thanks for the info jason

B17GI'd tend to agree with the other guys on here that the bullet is a tad light.
However, I also have learned to respect the experience of Mr. Dobrenski on here, and respect his advise. If he has had good luck with it, then I would take that as a good recommendation.
For myself I would move up to the 80 grainers. However, that is probably me perceiving that it is a little heavier constructed than the 70 grainers. Then again, I am partial to the Hornady 75 HP in 6mm for deer. It sure hangs a job on Oregon Blacktail deer, without a lot of muss or fuss. It is a good inexpensive bullet also.

AggieDogI think it is not the right bullet, that is a varmint bullet, you probably wont get deep penetration with it. Sure would be better to move up to a deer sized bullet like the partition, or the walmart 100 grain corelock by Remington. Why use a bullet on the edge like that? Sure someone swears by it, but the "bullet manufacturer" doesnt, so why not follow the bullet manufacturer's recommendation? Myself, I would use a 90 to 100 grain partition, X bullet, corelock, etc.
