What does one of these critters look like ? Where can I find a picture of one ? Tell me about these rifles. A fellow has offered to trade me one in .223 are they scopeable, bbl length ? short action ? accurate ? light or heavy ? Any imput appreciated.

I finally got a Sierra #5 and there you are right on the .358 Winchester page. I still think I am better looking than you or your bear for that matter.

On the CZ. I have picked up some of these rifles and they are a neat small gun for a low price. The only negative feature to me is that the magazine protrudes on the balance point. Perhaps there is a shorter magazine?

Such a rifle would be fun to carry or just plink with as the 223 is so cheap to buy ammo for. Also one could be loaded down to Hornet or .22 RF Mag levels with various reduced loads. All in all it would be a lot of fun.

I have so many projects up in the air what will the pest season well underway that I am puting this off. If the Montana rifles that I will have assembled work out I may order their small action for such a rig.

That CZ is also made in 7.62 X 39 and while thats a far superior military cartridge the .223 looks more useful for little animals.

I believe the CZ rifle you are referring to is the 527 and not the 550... Go to CZ-USA.com for there website. These are excellent, well made rifles, might require a little tweakin' but then again -- a little tweakin' never hurt anybody.

Savage 99 you are probably right on both counts about me and the bear. But the picture doesn't do the bear justice, It's really a pretty light blond, have it mounted in my house, wish I knew how to send a picture so you could see. Hi 358: I live right down the hill from you in Grants, N.M. I run the bureau for the Gallup Independent here in Grants. Now, as to the CZ, I own a CZ 527 in .223 Remington. It is the Lux version and has a 23.5 inch barrel, is rather light and a joy to shoot. I have one load that will do .5 MOA, but feel the rifle will do better. I refinished the stock, glassbedded the action and the bottom metal, free floated the barrel and slapped a 6.5x20 Simmons on it cause that's what I could afford. If you are at all interested in one, go to GunBroker.com on the internet and in the search window type in CZ 527. Some of the rifles there are from Phil's CZ Connection in Georgia, a mail-order place. He'll sell you a CZ 527 for $419-$429, plus $18 shipping. If I had it to do all over again I'd opt for the CZ 527 American, which comes with scope rings. The lux has iron sights which I had to remove anyway. Have a nice day 358! Tom Purdom

I have a CZ LUX in 223 Rem. Looks great and shoots even better. It is a very light rifle. 1 in 12 twist so the lighter 45 to 50 grain bullets are the most accurate. Mine likes the Winchester 45 grain hollow points (40 rnd value pack for $12 at WalMart). The only down side is the dovetails for the Weaver Style scope mount. They are set closer together than those on most american rifles. As a result not all weaver rings will fit. You can buy CZ rings on their webpage or Millet "high" rings will work OK. Need medium to high for the bolt handle to clear the eyepiece of the scope. I understand the CZ American doesn't have this problem but I don't think it is as good looking a long gun as the Lux.
