rugeruserRe: Browning 'Trombone' slide action 22 rf - thoughts?
Back in August, I asked for your opinions of this gun.
Well, my boy and I have played around with a few brands of ammo, and I'm amazed at it's accuracy!!
It LOVES Remington Cyclone, and easily puts 5 shots into 2" at 50 yards with open sights!! And it's a hoot to shoot - never had so much fun in all my life!
We went hunting together a couple of weeks ago, and he took 7 hares with it, a couple of them running shots... He also put ratshot into it, and spent hours wandering around culling the starling population!! On the wing!! He's pretty good at trap, so we practised by playing 'banana skin trap', then he was off and away! VERY proud Dad, and my boy was delighted to be able to tell his uncle to stick his opinion where it belonged.
A few pics:

Just wanted to thank you guys for the support and advice you gave me at the time!
We also took a couple of fallow, and nailed a few wild dogs that had been worrying the calves (it's calving time at the moment).
Oh, and the young 'un is already outshooting me at rimfire silhouette... why is youth (and good eyesight) wasted on the young?

crazyjjkrugeruser, you are doing right by your boy. By the smile on his face I would say this actually taught him who to put his trust in. I have an 11 yr old daughter who lives with me and my ex (her mother) is always spouting off like your ex's boyfriend. Didn't take my daughter long to figure out whose words were just donkey dung. I am sure it won't take your son long to figure it out. By the look at the smile on his face I think he already has. Good Luck, John

rugeruserThanks Hot Core, your comments are appreciated. I reckon you're right about the 'know it alls', they do more damage around kids than anything else I can think of!!
My boy is 13, I started him shooting at 9, his armoury consists of a Stirling 22mag (made in the Philippines, real cheap, but they have a GREAT reputation for accuracy here), a CZ 527 American in 223, and now the Browning 22. The Browning is his first open sighted rifle. Took him a while to get used to it, but as you can see, he's learnt the ropes!! He's a great kid, and loves 'hunting', as distinct from 'shooting'. He's taken rabbits, pigs, foxes, feral dogs, fallow deer, goats, pigs, you name it...
One of the hares had been eluding him for a few days - he was determined to get it. It became a real 'grudge match' - I think that's the one with the 'smile'... he was real pleased to finally nail it. Could post a pic of a hare taken with a 223, but not sure if it's appropriate on the forum.. it's pretty gory, but PETA would have a field day with it...
Thanks for the recipe, but it has ingredients I've never heard of (we're in Australia)...
What the hell are 'Cat-head biscuits' (the mind boggles!!) and 'chow-chow'...???
