John FrazerNecked-up .223?
Has anyone ever wildcatted with a .223 necked up to .243" or .257"? What kind of velocities could be achieved?
Might be a cool project on a mini-Mauser action?

John, the 6mm is known as a 6x45, there is the 7mmT.C.U. I haven't seen a 25 but sure it's been done, the 222mag. was shot alot in benchguns as a 6mm 6x47 and was top dog in BR untill the PPC case came along, both have been custom chambered in some of the small run type semi custom guns, Cooper-Kimber ect. they would be fun and cheap to load, good luck andgood shooting!!!

<Bill Tompkins>bigdaddytacp,
The .25 cal. was called the "Copperhead" as developed by John Wooters around 1968-69 on the .222 Rem. case. Wolfe Publishing has a giant book called "Wildcat Cartridges" where this article is written.

John FrazerThanks for confirming my suspicion that there are precious few cartridges left to invent. <g>

AtkinsonI seldom wander over this way but glad I did today...
I have shot the 6x45 (6mm-223) for quite a few years, built on a Sako L-461 round top action...I use two powders H322 and H335..
For deer I use 28.t grs. H335 for 3096 in my 20" barrel....My accuracy load is 25 grs. of H322 and a 60 gr. Sierra HP or 55 gr. Nosler Bal. tip, at about 3100 fps.
Accuracy? have NEVER shot a group over .500 and most are in the 2's and 3's..Not bad for a 5 lb. gun....

<goneballistic>Here is a 6x45mm, aka the 6/223. This is a Hornady 100 grain RN, the brass is headstamped 6x45. I like to push the 100 grainers around 2350. 70 grainers can go over 3000, but the ballistics on a comparable .224 bullet weight are better, the B.C. is much higher. The 6/223 gives you more short range versatility, bullet weight wise, and a heavier punch.
