The 35 Rem case is slightly larger than the x39 case and will lead to binding of the cases in a x39 mag. I speak from experience as I went through the trouble of turning 50 pieces of 44 Mag rimless (to x39 rim and extractor groove dimensions) to make an AK in 357-44 B&D Rimless .... that project went nowhere fast due to the mag issue.

Also, the 35 Rem case is relatively low pressure and when cut short, has thick walls. Between the trim work and the minor (if any) gain in capacity, topped with mag binding, the x39 case is still the better route IMHO.

It was damned efficient. They stuck with the 180 and 200 gr bullets for the 35 Remingtom because the idea was exactly what you said- a light & handy 35 caliber auto loader. Seems the velocities were about the same as factory 35 Rem., much better than the 357 in a rifle.

The case capacity looks like it would extend the effective range over the 357 mag for a woods gun. Anyway, the goal was a 35 with only a rebore and chamber in a light, handy auto-loader. Do you know what weight bullets they were playing with?

Just a guess, IIRC: If I Recall Correctly?

No offense taken, Dan, it sounds silly when most people are playing with RUM cases and such.

Ok, but this still avoids messing with the bolt.
