MarteriusHerter's .244??
I posted a question about this on the cartridge collecting forum, but I would like to as you as well: I have an empty case stamped Herter's (upper headstamp) and 244 (lower headstamp), found in a bag of mixed brass. I thought it was a .244 Rem - 6 mm Rem - but this case is 55 mm long (2.163 in) and hence shorter then the 6 mm Rem. Only the neck is shorter as far as can understand - the rest of the case seems to be just like the .244 Rem and the calibre is .244. Do you have any idea of what it might be? A Herter's own .244, an odd attempt to make a wildcat or just some guy who was a bit to hot on the trimmer!?

Martin

tdobeshI think I'd second eldeguello's thoughts. I have some of that brass of which you speak NIB back at my parents so I can't just throw a set of calipers on it just now, but if I'm ever back home and think of it I'll check it out. If it weren't messed up it should be GOOD brass! I've heard from a couple of sources that herter's brass/ammo was made for them by NORMA!!!

If the case is 55 mm long, and you are in Sweden, a couple of things strike me.
It could be that it is brass that someone at herters was going to market the 243 Rockchucker over in Europe. ( 243 with a longer neck, to 55 mms instead of 51mms)
My second guess which I would be more likely to think, since you are in Sweden is that it is a 6.5 x 55 necked down in some form to 6mm. And the idea never really sat the market on fire, and was dropped.
Cheers and Good shooting
