375/350 Remington Magnum
Guys,
Anyone played with this wildcat or care to comment on what may be possible with 220gr, 235gr, 250gr, 270gr and 300gr projectiles?? I've a spare short action M70 and spare 375H&H barrel and am wondering whether putting the two together would create something a little interesting.
Cheers...

Make it a 376 steyr, with factory loads, brass and dies available AND have a larger case than the 350 rem, 81 vs 72 grains of h20 capacity.

my 376 get 2900+ with 225, and 2500+ with 300gr

My 416/350 (416 express) pushes a 300gr to 2400 fps and a 350 gr cast to 2300 fps with a 22" barrel. I'm sure a 375/350 would be fun too.

I have an old Shooting Times articles kicking around here somewhere, from when the 350 was a new round, where they necked it up and down to about every bore diameter you can think of. In 375, it would duplicate the 375 whelen, give or take a few fps. - Dan

check the shank length on your barrel. make sure there is enough meat to shorten the chamber 3/4"[ basically wacking the threads off ] and rethreading. i got burnt on such a project. bought the barrel thinking there would be enough meat. not.

Jeffeosso,

Will the steyr fit into a short action mod 70 ? I thought the steyr was an 30/06 length case.

If it will fit into a short action I would almost consider getting a 375 steyr.

The steyr maxes out at 3.15", which should fit into a win short action. If not, it's a 15 min change

Hillbilly Hunter - the .416 Express sounds interesting. I've thought of that round for a short Remington 700 with magnum bolt fact that I've had in the safe for years. Finding a gunsmith with that reamer would be helpful and cut the cost of the project some. Care to share who the gunsmith is that did your rifle? Ed

Woofer,
How much metal at the shank is considered minimal? Barrel is off a Rem BDL in 375H&H, first guess is that there would be enough meat in the barrel to make the 375/350 work....but I'd better check! Thanks for the heads up!

Mark Pinkston aka www.kailua custom.com - accurate and well done -- However, the second rifle he built for me came with excessive headspace - a model 7 in 35 Rem. New factory brass will back the primer out when fired - when necked sized with a redding neck die it is then good to go

I'm interested in doing a 375/350 or a 9.3/350 next year with a OAL of 3.13". I don't know if that's too long for your action but I ran some Quickload numbers for the 375/350 and for comparison a .376 Steyr (another under appreciated cartridge).

All data uses 300gr bullets with a pressure of 58,000 psi and less than 2% powder compression(with a 22" barrel):

375/350(OAL=3.13") .376Stey(OAL=3.11")

Bullet Vel.(fps) Vel.(fps)

Speer AGS solid 2459, 2481

Nosler Part. 2408, 2442

Woodleigh SP 2424, 2469

Swift A-Frame 2390, 2413

That's a fair amount of work to get a 4.7% increase in bore diameter. Seated to the same COL, the 350 will be only 2.5% slower and will still shoot pistol bullets. A WSM case necked up to .375 at that COL has a water case capacity of 76 grains with a fully seated 300 grain bullet and will drive it near 2600 fps. Takes the same amount of magazine space as the 350 Rem.
