17/222 Vs. 17 Rem Difference??
Some one is selling me a 17/222 any thing I need to know about it? How is it different?

the 17 rem is bases on the 223 case. The 17/222 is on the 222 case. I at least believe that the 17/222 is probably a better cartridge, but was difficult to get the 4000 FPS+ remington was looking for. It is of course a reloading round, but dies etc. are no problem.

Dear Rambo,
The 17-222 Rem is a nicely balanced case. It won`t give you quite what the 17 Rem would but is still fun. There were 3-4 die sets for this case on EBay awhile back but I haven`t seen one lately. I am building one for a friend in the next town on a Rem 700 action. I have many 17s all the way from the 17 PeeWee to the 17/284 and like them all!Have fun with the 17 and if you don`t like it I am sure you`ll have no trouble selling it.

Aloha, Mark

The 2004 Hodgdon Annual Manual has loads listed for:
.17 Mach IV
.17-222
.17-223
.17 Rem
and several other wildcats as well. Might want to consider tracking down one of those manuals if you do not already have one.

Actually the 17 Remington is built off 222 mag brass, not the 223. A 17-223 is made with 223 brass.
