reloaderman30/223 Rem ?
I found some cases at the range, that are a 223 Rem that was shortened and necked-up to shoot a .30 cal bullet.
Can anyone tell me if it has a name?
What kind of ballistics does it produce?
What is it used for?
Any info would help.

ramrod340One that comes to mind is the 300 Whisper
http://stevespages.com/jpg/cd300whisper.jpgThey are often loaded subsonic thus the name.
People often make 300Whisper from 223 cases rather than buy 221Fireball. There is also a wildcat 30cal on the 223Rem just as the 222Rem has also been used for a short 30cal 'cat.
Cheers...

reloadermanThanks for the responses! I'll look for info on the 300 Whisper.
I'm not looking to build one, just wondering!

seafire2A local friend has one he plays with, he uses 210 grain Lead bullets he makes.. it is on a Savage 223 platform.. using brass sized down to Fireball size...
He turns in some impressive 100 yd groups, especially for a cast bullet...
it would make a good deer stand rifle with that bullet weight...and 100 yd zero.....

ArtfulA fair number are using 300/221 Fireball or 300 whisper if JD Jones makes it. Here's a place we gather ...
