Id say those velocities are a tad suspect. 7-08AI w/26" tube, 140xlc over 44.5 grains of varget does 3185 in my rifle. Hard to believe that kind of speed from such a short barrel but I may be wrong. The 7-08Ai is one caliber that does seem to be less affected by barrel length tho. Still I choose 26" tubes for all my rifles. I hunt at long ranges. That extra length gives me some extra velocity and some extra weight for a steadier hold. But one thing is for sure...a 7-08AI loaded with a quality 120 or 140 grain slug is deadly whitetail medicine.
