doubleD257 SAUM
What do you guys think about a .257 SAUM?. I have a custom .25-06 for varmints. I want something for deer and antelope. I want something in a short action.

dan belisleThat or a 25 WSM. I think it's a pretty neat idea. - Dan

Bob257There was a post earlier about a 25 WSSM that is supposed to come out next year. I haven't seen anything in writing elsewhere. That may be interesting too, although you won't get the velocity you would in a larger case.

DutchBob, Winchester just made the announcement of the 25WSSM. They claim approximate 25/06 velocities. Since the 25/06 is, by all measurements a "magnum" already, I suspect the gains made by "larger" 257 would be somewhat marginal.
If you want a real 25 cal banger, get the 257 WBY. It'll beat all of them, anyway, and do it without having the expense of a wildcat. JMO, Dutch.

doubleDI did see winchester is coming out with a 25 wssm. But I want something a little faster than than that. I was just wondering if anybody has a 257 based off of the wsm or the rsaum???? If so what kind of speed you are getting????

Mike375Is it true that the 243 WSSM isa slighly longer case body than the 223 WSSM. If so, maybe the 257 WSSM will be slightly longer than the 243 WSSM.

Dave JenkinsI think the 25 SAUM would be a damn fine round. If I were having it made though I would blow th shoulder out a little farther than the 1.538" enough to get a 40 degree .....but hey thats just me.

Mark R DobrenskiI'm wondering why would Win bring out the WSSM instead of the WSM?

dan belisleHmmm, a 25 SAUM AI, this sounds interesting. Time to find another Rem 600/660 donor rifle. How you doing Mark? I'll be back in your neck of the woods in the beginning of Dec, I'll drop in and see you. - Dan

doubleDDan,
I was wondering why you are looking for 600 or 660 actions? I was thinking of using a 700 short action. Will that work ??? Or do I need to be looking for a 600 or 660 action?
24 November 2003, 15:06
doubleDDan, I went and did some reading and I know why you would need a 600 or 660 action. 6.5 Rem Mag or a .350 Rem Mag. have the same bolt face.

dan belisleAlso Double D, the 600/660 actions are about the lightest factory actions ever. Open them up judiciously, and you can get a col of 3.1" in there. I've done this building 284's on this action. Makes for a great lightweight rifle. Match it up with a Brown Kevlar Pounder stock, or a Bansner (a little heavier, but I love the way they feel), Weaver bases and rings (weight again), an ADL aluminum triggerguard (ditto), and you have the makings of a very, very light sheep gun. I'm getting old and fat, I need all the help I can get when the scenery gets vertical. - Dan
