Nimrod30825 - 225 Win. Improved
Thinking about a 22" bbl. for a contender carbine in this caliber. Anybody have one or any info on it?
Thanks,

Lee MartinIt would be almost identical to a .25-35 Win Improved.

Rusty HookSee what you can find on the 257 JDJ, which is the 225 Win with a minimum body taper and a 40 degree shoulder. Varmint bullets from 75 grains on up work well, with the 85 Gr Ballistic Tip being a good whitetail/antelope/varmint load at between 2850 and 2900 fps out of a 14" Contender barrel. The 100 gr BT or Partitionns should be used for larger deer, at about 2700 fps, again out of a 14" pistol barrel.
JD Jones velocity ratings are sometimes a little exagerated but you ought to be able to achieve the above velocities easily in a rifle length barrel. The heavier 257 bullets are too heavily constructed to expand at the velocities the 257 JDJ can produce with them, and angled shots should be avoided with all the lighter bullets on big game.
Dies, loading information and custom made barrels, as well as rechambering services, are available from SSK Industries. Good luck with your project...Rusty.
