rutten280 Rem Improved / 280 Rem. Ackley Improved (Difference?)
Hello, I need to know if there is a difference between the 280 Remington Improved and the 280 Remington Ackley Improved. I am building a 280 Remington Ackley Improved and had a buddy give me a set of RCBS dies that are marked 280 Remington Improved. Is this the same cartridge or are they to seperate wildcats. I have sarched all over the web and cannot find anything that helps me.

Steve E.Yes they are different cartridges. The main difference is in the shoulder angle. I believe the 280 Rem. Imp has about a 30* shoulder and the 280 Ack. Imp has a 40* shoulder(I have 2 of the 280 Ack. Imp. rifles)
The 30* shoulder of the Rem Imp is supposed to feed better than the 40* shoulder of the Ack. Imp. as in less of a chance of having to tweak(tweek?) the feed rails
I don't think there is any difference in the ballistics.
I have never had any problems with feeding out of the magazine with the 280 Ack. Imp. but the rifles I have built in that caliber has been on Mauser actions. Any doubt about the dies then call RCBS, they will be glad to help.
It should be a fine cartridge.

ramrod340The RCBS 280 does have a 30 deg shoulder instead of the normal 40 deg AI. I have never had a trouble getting the 40 deg to feed.

ruttenThanks Guys,
I emailed RCBS today and they want me to send the die into them so they can test it. They have made both 30 and 40 degree shoulder 280 improved die sets. Do not believe you can find any better customer service than RCBS.

remboThere was a wildcat called the 280 RCBS designed by Fred Huntington which had a 28 degree shoulder. Maybe this is what the dies are cut for?
