8mm Ernst Magnum Loads
Following on from my earlier post. On page 150 of the 1967 Gun Digest is an article on a potent Wildcat 8mm Magnum called the 8mm Ernst Magnum. (.323 dia)

This was developed by a Midwest gunsmith, Dave Ernst in Ft Atkinson, Wis. Formed from .308 Norma, .338 or .300 Winchester Magnum Brass, it had a 28 deg shoulder and chamber length of 2.555". Case length was .2550".

These are the following loads the author gives (25 inch barrel)

175gr Hornady - 73.4 grs 4350 = 3095 fps
197gr Norma - 73.5 grs N203 = 3065 fps
225gr Barnes - 73.5 grs H4831 = 2975 fps
250gr Barnes - 71.5 grs H4831 = 2735 fps

I guess if someone wanted to build something a little different, this could be an interesting number.

Regards and merry xmas to you all.

Michael.

Well, given that the dimensions given are pretty much the same as the 8mm PMM (Poor Man's Magnum), I think those ballistics are a little optimistic. FWIW - Dan
