Re: .405 win
BwanaBob,

I figured as much. By the way, my memory served me wrong! I brain farted, as I thought the 9.3X74R had a base diameter of .469", while the 405 Win was .457".

Just measured one of each:
Norma 9.3X74R base diameter - 0.461"
Hornady 405 Win - .455"

So you most definitely could use the 9.3X74R to make 405 Win brass, although the rim is quite a bit smaller in diameter (shell holders are inversely interchangeable though i.e. you can use the 405 Win shell holder for the 9.3 but not the other way around).

So imagine that Mr. Water's was right? Stupid me, they do say the mind is the first thing to go, and if that is true mine had to have gone sometime ago.

No, I wasn't suggesting making .405 from 9.3x74R, although Ken Waters in Pet Loads claims that you can do it in a pinch, but with Hornady brass being readily available why would you bother?

No, I was simply suggesting to use the 9.3x74R as is or to create a new wildcat for this particular application.
