Got into a discussion about 6.5 wildcats with a gunsmith and we got to talking about one - the 6.5-376 Steyr. Should be a bit more room then a 6.5-284, with readily availible brass (284 win brass can be scarce from what I see, and 6.5 norma brass aint cheap!) plus no rebated rim and no mag box alterations.

This got me to thinking....since the Steyr is a cut down 9.3x64.....why not just neck down the 64mm case to 6.5?? Maybe someone with more knowledge then me could help out on this. Should be right on par, or maybe a bit faster then a 264WM yes? I know brass aint cheap, but wildcattings not about being easy now is it?

There´s a 6,5mm based on a 9,3x64 Case already.
It´s named 6,5x63 Messner Mag. and is made by a Gunsmith in Belgium.Cases an loaded Ammo is available.

There really are no new wildcats.

The 6.5x63 Messner has essentially the same ballistics as the 264 Win Mag. Just lacks a belt.

The Fire Form loads have been scary accurate. Do you have any load data for this rascal? So far all I have is RL-25 and worked up to 70grs.

I plan to do more experimenting this spring. I salvaged a barrel off a Model 70, 264 Win Mag that a guy said wouldn't shoot. It had a copper mine inside it.

I'm not home right now but it seems to me as i re-call, I gained about 5grs of water capacity by improving. That makes a total w/c 90grs or VERY close to 300 Win Mag. so the way I figure it I have a 6,5x300WM without the belt.

From what I have been told this case was also a parent to the 30 Newton which I am also told was a version used for the 375 Ruger. I'd like to lay my grubby paws on some 375 Cases to check out this "rumor". I have 100 Hirtenberger and 100 RWS cases in my inventory at present.

P.S. The 8x68 Schuler is the European version of the 8mm Rem Mag. Mr. Schuler was a smart man, unfortunately his rounds hit the streets around 1940 and the GERMANS had other things on their minds at that times. So the rounds almost died.

I'm sorry but I don't have that rifle. It is one that I had my heart set on for about 45 yrs. but never got around to building or buying. I'm sure I had more than one lame excuse why I never got one. roger

I had a beautiful old 6.5/68 years ago. Problem back then was the slow twist. I think it was 1-14 or so and would only shoot the really light bullets accurately. Try as I might I never was able to make it shoot the 140s. I sold it to a collector in the late 70s and found later it might also have had a slightly different bore diameter too. The 264 Thor shoots the light weight bullets pretty good and FAST too. I had the 140s moving out too.
