What Is The 357 Necked To 22?

I can't remember the name of this cartridge. Ballistics info? Thanks.

Are you thinking of the 22 Ackley Jet or the 22 Sabre Jet ???

Ballistics of the different variations are about the same - 50 gr bullet @ 3000 fps - out of a rifle, of course.

A picture of the .22 Rem. Jet, as found on a fine Spanish site, is above. The European standards body rates it at 37,000 psi. Case capacity is about the same as the .218 Bee.

Since this is on the Wildcat Forum, I assumed the cartridge you are interested in is the wildcat. The 22 Jet or 22 CFM is a factory cartridge.

On the left is the 22 Super Jet which is the Jet cartridge Improved. On the right is the Ackley Jet which is the 357 Magnum cartridge necked-down. The Sabre Jet is virtually identical to the Ackley Jet. And there are others.

Ooops! Got the captions backwards. The Ackley is on the left and the Super is on the right.

BTW, the 22 Rem CFM (Jet) originated as a necked down 357 Mag and the prototype cartridges were headstamped accordingly. But that is pretty much the only relationship between the two. The prototype was only vaguely similar to the final case dimensions.
