bearcatNecking .308 to .243???
I no longer have a .308 but I have several boxes of Federal Gold match 168g. I tried pulling one of the bullets with a puller and it came out just fine. I put one though the .243 die and it didn't come out looking exactly like the .243 brass the top shoulder isn't a crisp bend like it should be and the mouth of the case looks uneven. Am I doing something wrong or is this normal? Thanks

KingfisherNecking down 308 to 243 may leave you with some strange looking cases until the first time you fire them, i.e. the shoulder might be a slightly wrong angle etc. Not sure what you mean about the mouth being uneven. Did you put enough lube on the cases? I suppose if you didn't lube the cases enough you could be distorting them, but that seems unlikely. Chances are you just need to load them and fireform them and they'll be good to go.

dan belisleFor the amount of money involved, just sell the Gold Medal ammo (it usually brings a good price) and buy 243 brass. FWIW - Dan

bearcatI will pull another and put more lube on it and try fire forming. If that does't work, anyone want 3 boxes of ammo???????

stevozrexI would suggest using a 7-08 FL die as a middle step.. You wont lose as many cases and don't forget to keep an eye on neck thickness!!! you might have to turn the necks.

bartscheF-7-F! I have done this successfully when I had to.If you are doing it for shits and giggles just to have fun or get experience have at it.But as was earlier advised sell the ammo and buy the brass. If I lived closer I'd swop with u. Postage being what it is makes it undoable. Roger

bearcatWell it is doable but..... It isn't going to be worth it in the end. I've done a few and its going to work but the case is just slightly shorter after being sized. I guess I'll go to the Classified board and put them up for sale. Any know the value on a box of Federal Gold Match in 168g?? Thanks again
