what will i gain with 22-250 AI over standard

what will i gain with 22-250 AI over standard
hi i was wondering what i wld gain by going down the ackley route i will be using bullets upto 55grains and dont want to move up to vld's.do u think it would be worth it and how many shots do u think i will get out of a barrel compared to a standard 22-250?how much extra range will i gain if any? thank you for your help

Bunny - The short answer is very little. The standard 22/250 is already very efficient and even slightly overbore capacity. In such case, you achieve little by "improving it." Mostly it will just be some extra reloading steps and expense for no practical gain.

By the way, Bunny - Having read Ackley's books, I can tell you that Ackley himself thought many wildcats and "improved cartridge designs" were a complete waste of time.......INCLUDING many of his own.

Many of his own creations did not happen because he thought they would ever be a good idea...but because a customer wanted a such and such. So Ackley built it. But he would have been the first to tell you most of them were a waste.

Case shape being irrelevant, the rule remains: ONE percent velocity gain for each FOUR percent of case capacity gain. Holds true whether you make it fatter or longer.
