Anyone have either one of these I have checked on the net and really could not find any Reloading data and ballistics on them. I know it is the same case but are the shoulders of the two the same and is fire forming required?

The 338-8mm will have more case capacity, I believe in the ballpark of the 340 Wetherby. Look at 340 data to see what type of performance could be expected.

My father has a 338/8mm. He calls it a 338/416 but technically they're the same since the 416 and 8mm are the same case. He's out of town a the moment so I can't give specific load data but he uses RL-22 almost exclusively (bullets from 200-225 gr.) and his accuracy and velocity are outstanding.

if improved, this is the same as the 338x8rem mag...

which is the same as a 340 weatherby, like paul said.

I think they are the same cartridge just when you neck the 375 H&H down you have to blow the shoulder out so I would say necking up the 8mm would be alot easier. I figured that the 340 would be close but the brass is so damn expensive but if you went that route it would be alot less work and you could get factory ammo in a pinch. I might have to look at going the weatherby route. Thanks for the info

Might try forming 416 or 8 rem mag into 340?

I am a big time 340 freak and basically that is what you are talking here. I've used both the H&H and the 8 RM to make 340 cases. Honestly I don't do either any more, I just get new Wby cases it is a lot easier and saves some time.

I believe you are talking about the .375 Taylor (.375/.338), or a cartridge that uses a .338 case and a .375 bullet. The .375 Taylor is an outstanding wildcat, since its ballistics are similar to those of the .375 H&H from a relatively small .338 case.
