.204 PPC
Is anyone working with a .204 dia. bullet on the PPC case? Please advise. It would appear to me that this may make a very fast and accurate combo. The PPC case design being proven and the case capacity should work. I'd like to hear from any of you with thoughts on this subject.

The 20 PPC has been tried by more tham one shooter, including Walt Berger. A lot depends on what you want to use it for. For extreme accuarcy the PPC case is a little big for 20 caliber. In fact, it's a little too big for 22 caliber, hence the 22 WALDOG. There is a version that is basically a 20 WALDOG called the 20 PUP that has been used in Benchrest and is very accurate. A better Benchrest cartridge may be a 20 RUSSIAN since it does have a little less capacity than the PPC.

On the other hand, if you're after maximum velocity and minimum barrel life, the 20 PPC would probably fill both needs.

Thanks for the input guys. The reason that this crossed my mind was while in SD shooting prairie dogs I had a chance to shoot a .204 Ruger in a Cooper rifle. The little .204 was a laser beam out to 300-yards. When I fired a shot I could see the hit in the scope without loosing the sight picture. I have an old benchrest rifle in 6mm ppc adn thought that re-barreling to a .204 on a 6mm ppc case might be just the ticket for shooting prairie dogs. However your point is well taken when it comes to barrel life. Maybe the way to go is with a .204 Ruger chamber and re-do the bolt face. Funny the things we think of after a prairie dog shoot! By the way prairie dogs come un-glued when hit with the .204 and Hornady V-Max bullets!

Weaver Rifles is building a 20cal on the 22-250 cases. I talked to Walt Berger last year about what case for his 20 cal 50gr bullets and he rec a 22-250 case. The case capacity of the 22ppc is pretty close to that of the 204 Ruger case. I saw a post on www.benchrest.com as to Walt Berger shooting a 20ppc so you might want to e-mail Berger bullets and see what bullet and case he is shooting. The post I saw was dated 10-10-06.
You might want to try www.6br.com as they have a listing of loads for the 20PPC plus other wildcats. Well good luck.
