“Cartridges of the World†by Frank C. Barnes would be a good place to start, lots of info on wildcats and good reading. By the way I believe the Wampus Kitty is a ’06 necked down to .22. I’m not sure about that though.

260remguy'Just curious, but why do you want a .224 bore that will give you more velocity than a 220 Swift? Are you going to shoot heavy, 60 grains +, bullets out of a quick twist barrel? I have a 22-243 Middlestead and have had a couple of 22-6mm Remingtons (22 TTH) but can't find a niche for them to fill. The 22-243 is fast, but deer shot with a 60 grain Partition seem to die just a quickly when the bullets come out of a 22-250. The 22-6mm Rems were rechambered 223 barrels and they ate throat quickly.
BTW, what did you do with your 25 WSSM?

For "old timer" wildcats you could try Richard Simmons book "Wildcat Cartridges " - they turn up on E-Bay quite often ; or Fred Ness' book " Practical Dope on the .22" , or some of C S Landis' books have good referance to wildcats ; or "Wildcat Cartridges Vol 1 and 11 Combo Edition" by Wolfe publishing . The latter is a compilation of articles from Handloader magazine.
All these are available on E-bay on occassion.
