Jeffe -

I have some traveling to do first week of June, but should be completing about 4 or 5 uppers that will need to be tested, so say mid-June?

Marty,
when are we going to make it to the range? Early June good for you?

nice to hear that gun and cartridge available in the us, at last FN will make something with their stock. The cartridge was develop from the 30 carbine round but later FN make a new case. This is allways similar to the 30 carbine base so it may possible to work with the 30 carbine action.

The P90 and the FN5.7 pistol have been available in the US for some time now, albeit for LEO/Mil and dealers until recently. The pistol is now being marketed in a civilian version with the civilian (non AP) load, however, locally we have fired the AP load and it does indeed make itty bitty holes (the W penetrator made the actual hole in our case, stripping the rest of the bullet)

Regarding the development of the P90 SMG, the original concept came from the Hill SMG developed here in Houston, which was presented to FN numerous years ago. Through all the red tape nonsense and other less-than-ideal working, Mr. Hill ended with NADA for his invention, and FN went off touting it as their idea. The Hill SMG was chambered in 9mm rather than the 5.7x28.

As to the cartridge, not much new there either, as you stated, it hails back the 5.7 MMJ AKA the 22-30 Carbine. However, the 5.7 loaded length in greater than that of the 30 Carbine, and will not fit the mags for the M-1 Carbine. Besides, with IAI offering M-444 (new production M-1) in 5.7 MMJ, at a much lower price, why go with the P90.

Final note. While the P90 looks great, it has two great flaws. One, the mag. If you drop a partially filled one, the rounds get jumbled and FN will tell you to ship it back to them (with the rounds in it) as only they can restore it to working order. So much for field expediency. Two, the bull-pup length. Without the can mounted, the length is so short, that when doing MOUT/CQB, it becomes FAR to easy to cross your own hand opening a door, and more than one seasoned shooter has ended up with self-inflicted GSW-TNT of the hand. As if it doesn't suck enough to be first in the door anyway ...

Other than that it is a great system

I do relish the idea of 20 rounds in my pistol, but the bullet is so light and small that unless CNS hits are placed, they lack stopping power.

I noticed some "out of the ordinary" brass at the local range a few days ago. Turned out it was 5.7 x 28 (FN/00 headstamp). I thought - "this would make a really nice .17 small varmint cartridge" and went about searching the net for info on it. I found nothing as far as Wildcatting on this little "cutie."

Does anyone know of an admitted .17 x 28 wildcatter out there? Maybe one that has a quite different naming. I am sure I can't be alone in my thinking - nor even close to the first.

I bought a box here, right after it was released to civlians. It's for a THIRTY round pistol, in a more or less normal sized/appearence pistol that is able to befiredin burst and full auto. it's also for an smg, with a HUGE abouts of rounds.

I haven't found anything to build a singleshot or bolt gun off on this.. it'll come

When comparing the 5,7x28 case to the .22 Hornet,I find the Hornet case to be more desireable than the 5.7x28 FN for
wildcatting.

There are rifle actions availible to fit the Hornet case, there are none that readily fit the 5.7. A rimmed case
is easier to fit in a revolver or singleshot firearm.

The 5.7 case might be useful as a .30 caliber bullet jacket
or marker for a golf ball or maybe a wildcat to replace the .25ACP.

I am sure that eventually someone will wildcat it,just because.

jeffe, its a twenty round mag, and its a semi auto pistol, not full or burst. Made to punch through body armor, its a nifty little round, but you can only buy the HP and ball practice ammo, not the max spec armor peircing ones

Check out www.saubier.com. There are people there talking about a 17 wildcat version on their forum.

a nice bolt gun, like a ruger 77/44 or a totally reworked spanish destroyer would be nifty

Thanks for the link Aaron.

The one picture I found on there is kinda like what I had in mind. Will do some more looking around, though, to see if I can find any more. I knew someone had to have been there before me!
