.375 handgun wildcats
.375 handgun wildcats
Are there any 375 caliber wildcats for handguns? Specifically revolvers.

fredj338I'm not sure if these really qualify as wildcats, because you could get brass & rev. were factory made. I few years ago I had a .375 supermag in a large frame Dan Wesson. It's basically a short .375win. It was a good shooter, 220gr bullets @ somethig like 1400fps from an 8"bbl. I traded it to a buddy for the same rev. in .44mag. I also have a TC 12" hunter in .375win. This is a great single shot round, 220gr SP @ 1800fps. Then there is the .375JDJ, based on the .444 Marlin case. For a revolver, you would have to go .375SM. There are probably some still around. I should see if I can buy my buddies back.

I was just wondering. A cut off 30-30 winchester case looks like it would fit a 375 bullet once resized. Its probably just a solution looking for a problem.
That is the 375 Super mag.
Basicly a 30-30 case blown out and shortened to 1.610"

fredj338I should have metioned what joncb said, when I first started laoding for the .375sm I made some cases from 30-30 just to see if it could be done. It's an interesting round. The DW rev. were wuite accurate, 3" groups @ 100yds w/ open sights was not uncommon.

475/480Gary Reeder has 3
A 445 case necked down to 375
A 378 GNR -a 405Win. necked down to 375
A 375 GNR #2-a 45-70 necked down to 375,this is the barrel I have for the TC Encore Pistol will put a 270gr out at 2300 fps from a 14" bll.

You could also neck down the 41 magnum, and I believe this was also done.
The problem with a .375" in a revolver is you really don't have any good component bullets available, so you're looking at casting your own or swaging your own, and getting a custom mold or dies.

fredj338You are right about that Paul, one of the reasons I traded off my DW. The 220grHornady is a good bullet though & you have the 200gr Sierra. NEI makes several molds in .375 that are suitable. Maybe I should buy it back, I know the guy I traded to hasn't shot it at all.

Lee MartinI built my .375 Atomic back in '97 and it's proved to work well in converted Ruger Blackhawks (.375 SuperMags trimmed to 1.40"):
