I will be using a 8.5 Bat action and using this for 1k BR.

OK then, go with the RUM. My point was why take a big-ass case with a large diameter head and shorten it to reduce the capacity when there are existing cases that will do the same thing without alterations and special dies. I am a 1000 yard BR shooter and my own opinion is that even the RUM is larger than need be. A case with a capacity of around 90 grains is all that is needed for best accuracy in a 30 caliber 1000 yard rifle.

I kinda' agree with cheech. What's the point? You can get the same thing out of the 300 RUM. The brass and dies would be of considerable cost and not worth the trouble.

One reason not going for the RUM would be the brass is not good. If u use Lapua 338 brass to begin with u have the best brass available anywere. If u make it tight neck it will last u perhaps 50 or so reloadings (or whatever, point being if u buy 50pcs it will outlast the barrel.)

Why not go with a 300 Dakota?

Quality Norma Brass is available and it is like a slightly shorter RUM ???

Talk with Tom Sarver in Ohio. That is exactly what he did with his new 1k gun. He can give you factual data, pluses and minuses and not guesses as to whether it is good idea or not.
