Im sure that someone has necked the 7x57mm Mauser up to 30 cal. But what are some of the names the cartridge goes by?

Wildcat CrazyThe only .30x57 cartridge that I'm aware of is the .300 ICL Tornado.

TSJA friend of mine has a Rigby .275 AKA 7x57.
The bore was gone and he had it rebored to 30x57. I did some loading for it and found it to be .... a .308 with a differant name.

If properly throated and with the right twist it is more than that. Not only can it safely propell any bullet faster than the .308, It can handle the heavier bullets to the extent that the .308 can not compare.

SlowHandYou should neck down the 8x57.
You would get a few more grains of powder and the neck would be moved further forward.

WoodjackLooking at an old Hornadyload book they show the 7x57(22" barrel) doing 2800max.160gn53.5gn (H414 or H450?)
Going up to 30cal/180gn should give us something reasonably over 2700fps.
The best combos I can think of, would be the .30/x57AI maybe with the shoulder moved forward a bit,or not. or another,The 8x60 simply necked down to .30cal.
Put either into an intermediate98 or SaM70,kevlar stock, muzzle breaked 23" tube,2.5-8xleupold ,180tsx,and you will have a versatile potent 7lb friend that is an absolute pleasure to shoot.
Heres a 7x57AI,if necked to .308 and shoulder moved forward (or not), it would still find favour with me.
http://www.accuratereloading.com/757ackley.htmlIn actual fact i like the idea of necking the 8x60 to .284 or.30cal,and leaving it that way or maybe improving a little,25-30deg/.445 shoulder, nothing radical.

x-51There's really nothing wrong with it. But this is the wildcat section and a lot of things are done to cartrideges not necessarily just to fix them.

Very much agreed, X-51! The simple reason of, "I just want one.", is quite sufficient
and valid!
It does not have to be bigger, better or improved over anything! And those who have nothing better to do than criticize your choice
based on that reasoning need to get a life!
(Not directed at anyone...just a statement of
my humble opinion.)
Now I do understand knowledgeable gunnuts taking
to task foolish claims often given the new
whizzbanger by its' papa! Can't fault them for that.

seafire/B17GI have seen some work done on necking the 7 x 57 case up to 30 Caliber...
It was evidently semi common back in the 1950s on Mauser Rifles...
To be patriotic I guess.. it was called the 30 American...
