Bwana-be30-348 Ackley info, please
Anyone with Ackley's data on the 30-348 Imp?
My figuring says a 150g will do about 3000 fps from a 24" bbl, which is hard to believe. That's at about 43.5k CUP.
I'll have to get his books sooner or later, I suppose....

ACRecurveBwanabe,
The only load listed in Mr. Ackley's book Vol. 1 is for a 170 grain bullet using 4350--don't know which one (IMR or H)60 to 61 grains at 2710 to 2760 fps. The 30 Howell is a shortened 348 Win necked to 30:
4831 65 grs 150 grain bullet 3200 fps
4350 56 grs 150 2800 fps
4350 58 grs 150 2950 fps
Hope this helps!

Bwana-beThanks a ton. It does help.
Was that for the improved 348 Case, or a straight neck-job? Barrel length?

ACRecurveBwana-be,
The 170 grain load was for the improved case. The others were for a shortened and improved version. Both used a 1 in 10 twist but neither listed bbl length. I'm not sure if it's similar or not but the 30 Jamison data (if you can find it)might be of help.
Cheers,

Bwana-beThanks again.
I'll be ordering Akley's books after the X-mas rush. I appreciate you typing it in.
The problem with the Jamison is the data will be in a bolt gun. It's about as useful as the WSM data. But what you're saying about Ackley's data confirms mine.
I do believe this will be a worthwhile project.
I still say Winchester is a bunch of fools for not doing a line of WSM Rimmed for a new batch of 71's in 30, 35 and 45. Oh, well.

ACRecurveBwana-be,
Although I'd like to see Winchester do what you said, I'd much rather they concentrate on producing a quality product off the assembly line instead of a product that needs to be taken immediately to a gunsmith to be put into proper working order!
Good luck with your project--it sounds like a good one. Keep me posted!
