I happen to love the 6mm. From my playing with 6mm wildcats anything larger you are burning a lot more powder for maginal gain. As usual just my $.02 Paul K

Looking at the only data I have handy I can compare my 6mm and my 240PDK (think 240 gibbs in a 280 case). I had two douglas 6mm 24" barrels. One I chambered 6mmRem and the other I first chambered as 6-06 then my 280PDK. Can't find the 6-06 data but as I remember the gain was pretty much the same as the PDK. I pulled the barrel on the PDK and kept the 6mm. Using the 100gr Part since I have data from both this is what I measured. 6mm with 49.5grs MRP I would around 3290 in my 240PDK using in the range of 58.5grs of 7828, MRP, RL-22 I would get 3340. Remember this is simply one data point one set of barrels. So I burned 18% more powder for 1.5%velocity gain. I'm sure a 26"+ or maybe slower powders might have given more gain. I don't like to carry anything longer than a 24" if I can help it. Compare published data for the 6mm, 6-284, 240Wby(basically a 6-06 with a belt) gains are in the 100+fps range. Not sure what barnes bullet you were using but hit a mule deer with a 100gr+ bullet moving at 3250-3300 fps and I's sure you will get his attention. I think everyone should use the cartridge of their choice. If the various large case 6mm make them happy by all means go for it. The large capacity does probably make it easier to find a sweet spot at 6mm max or higher. For my 2 cents give me a 6mm loaded with a heavy load of powder in the MRP RL22 range and I'm happy. ![]() As usual just my $.02 Paul K

For a time I owned both a .243 superrockchucker and a 6mm Remington....I could see no desernable difference in the field and very little on paper either. BTW a superrockchucker is a 6mm-06 with a 28 degree shoulder. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
