280AI load data
Hello Riflemen: My brother in law bought an Encore rifle with several barrels. I am preparing to handload some 280AI ammo using 140 grain Nosler Ballistic tips. Any information you might have on powder charges would be greatly appreciated. I have on hand RE22, IMR4350, IMR4831, that might apply. If other powder is better I'll buy it. Thanks

I don't have 140gr data but I do have some 150gr data.

I can't find my RL22 load data but it was a great powder for this caliber.

H4831sc @58.5gr with a 150gr smk seated at the lands yielded a .161" group.

59.5gr went into the.3's and .4's as well as 60.0gr (same groupings) I think the target being backed out to say 300yds would give a clearer answer but for accuracy potential the 58.5gr load was the winner. I didn't have my chrono yet so I don't have any speeds for you. HTH

I have a 280AI with the shoulder moved foward. Case is just a little bigger. RL22 is my powder of choice.

Take look in the nosler reloading manual, there are numerous loads listed for the 280AI. I have been loading for the 280 Rem for about 4 years now and every time I look for a reference, the 280AI calls to me. There are also loads listed for the cartridge in the single load compilation book for the .280Rem. Also, visit the reloading pages of this site.

For the combination you have nothing beat N165. RL22,IMR4831 are good ones, and for plain accuracy w/out blistering speed is AA3100. Many powders shoot well. My rifles liked -.010" seating.

Hey Tim, did you ever try any RL25 with 150 grains or heavier bullets?

Seems like I jumped to 160`s from 140`s in the 280 AI and RL25 shot good. RL25 shines in the 6.5-06 AI for sure.

Hello Riflemen: Thanks for the information and I'll be using it tonight. I got to get this rifle sorted out soon as it will be chasing antelope after August 12. Hardley06
