.416x2"
I've been reading some older discussion papers on development of a .416x2", to go along with the .458 American. I can't find any further details; can anybody help?

Look for Ken Water's article on the 416Express (416/350RemMag).

Just a bit of a twist on this. Instead of a 416 you might consider a .429 2". It gives you a bunch of 44 bullets to play with, some of those are bonded as well and will probably work at the velocities a 2" will generate. 416 bullets may, as a group, be a bit stiffer and expansion performance may be an issue. The 429 2" is capable of 300 grns up around 2300.

+1 on the Waters article. Or a fella might try a .411, then he could play with 41 magnum pistol bullets as well as slugs intended for the 405 Winchester...

Get a copy of Wildcat CartridgesII, O.A. Winters has a good article in it about the 10.6x51 or .40x2, or .416x2 as he calls it. Has data from 22 inch barrel, 270 gr @2450,300 gr@ 2300, 330 gr 2200 and 400 gr @1900.

Hornady's 300RCM case is going to be a doozy in 416cal for a very mild big bore! Should "guarantee" 400Whelen ballistics and a bit beyond.
Cheers...

Thanks to all for your input....I've been away awhile, sorry for the delay in responding. I did check out the 10.6x51 in Wildcat Cartridges 2, and that one looks to be the ticket. I very much like the .458x2", a friend has one that I shoot regularly, however the .416 version seems like it might be more versatile. I have a Rem M660 7mm-08 that begs to be re-barrelled ( and the bolt-face modified, new extractor etc.).....it may take awhile but I'll post the results. Thanks again.
