MileHighShooter475x2"?
First off, I really thank you guys for keeping up with my nutty ideas and helping to bounce ideas off of! I'm happy to think I am among many like minded gun nuts in here, especially you Boom Stick lol New ideas almost every week!
Anyways, most of you've have kept up with and replied to some of my earlier thoughts on a short magnum action wild cat. I was looking at something the other day that caught my attention. Would it be possible to get a .475 pistol bullet into basic belted mag brass? No shoulder is really needed since its belted. I am thinking a 2-2.2" or so belted mag case stuffed with 480 Ruger/475 Linebaugh bullets might be quite the little thumper!
If you think every possible niche has been filled already, thank a wildcatter!

boom stickThe 475-450 marlin has been done. A short action using pistol bullets and a 2.4" case would be better IMHO.
PS Thanks for the vote of confidence

Some of my ideas are good but most have no advantage. I am kinda like Edison who keeps failing but success sometimes is all you need.

MileHighShooterwow a 2.4" case? YIKES, thats a lot of powder lol Man if I had an extra standard length .532 action I'd just go 2.5" and make a short Capstick!

MileHighShootermake that 2.6" with a longer neck

boom stickA 2.64" case with a 475 bullet on an 06 length action is the max.
To do better than the 475-450 Marlin you need to go to 2.4" on a short action.

MileHighShooterI like the 2.4" idea, I think it would give me quite a bit of flexibility with the various weights of bullets available. Maybe go with the lighter 300 class hard bullets like Barnes for high speeds, or the really heavy cast bullets for some short range super thumpin!

Get the tough 400 grain speer gold dots to 2150 in the 2.4" and that will be the bees knees.

MileHighShooterDon't see that being a problem, at least by my estimations. I think this might be a solid choice for the donor action I have....it would be nice to have it done before fall, if so, there should be some scared lil piggys in TX

boom stickHow Bout a 475 wssm???
25 November 2008, 02:57
MileHighShooterThat thought crossed my mind as well, but currently, I have the WSM action to work with, and not a WSSM action.
I mean I guess I COULD do a wssm on a wsm action, but with that extra 1/2" inch, I'd have to do something a lil more interesting....kind of like that 510 wsm a few pages down lol but on a WSSM! Oh jeez...here we go again. You're a bad influence BS! lmao

boom stickOops... I meant WSM.
25 November 2008, 22:40
MileHighShooterWhat I'm wondering now, is if I went with a belted mag case vs the WSM case, would I be able to get one more down in the mag?

boom stickDoubt it unless mods are done.
Bigboredan has made a reamer for the 470 wsm aparently

MileHighShooterI will check that out!

MileHighShooterHmm...see I think I have to agree with Jeffeosso in that link, the WSM case is too much for pistol bullets, but not enough for 475 rifle bullets. A 2.2-2.4" case would have a bit less capacity, and even then might be on the large side for the majority of pistol bullets. But, the Gold Dot you mentioned, or Barnes or maybe Beartooth's should be a good match. In a WSSM though....it'd be a bolt action equivalent to the 475 Linebaugh! And thats no small feat.

25 November 2008, 23:45
boom stickThe 475 on the WSM case will be OK for old school velocities that have worked for 100 years.
a 475 wssm would be perfect for pistol bullets and more powder room than a 475 maximum.
26 November 2008, 02:49
MileHighShooterWhat are you ref. to by old school? 500's from old BP doubles?

boom stick http://www.barnesbullets.com/images/470NitroExpressWeb.pdfI think the high preasure WSM can do this but Quickload will help get a better estimation.

MileHighShooterYa know something over on BB got me thinking, what about .435? Duplicate 425 WR ballistics no problem, and I found a place here in CO that makes custom cast moulds, I could use some lead as well as the Woodleigh 410's

26 November 2008, 03:52
boom stickI would love to do a 2.65" length 335-06
410's @ 2150
26 November 2008, 04:15
MileHighShooterHow about 335 Ruger? 410's at....2300+?

26 November 2008, 04:38
boom stickI have put it out there about a year and a half ago that the 425 (335) ruger would be the largest you would want to go on that case. I just dont see the ROI over the 416. rebore a 416 ruger and tadaa! It would be a cat only a catter could love

26 November 2008, 04:47
MileHighShooterReboring a 416 Ruger into a 404 Ruger would be even easier!

boom stickYup and you get to keep the sights.

BohicaTake a peek at GunBroker # 117155787. I am considering taking the chamber out to 2 1/4" for a little more OOMPH! Like it nees it!

27 November 2008, 22:22
boom stickI would do the 458 wsm
27 November 2008, 22:33
MileHighShooterQual Cart DOES offer stamped 458 WSM brass, as well as 416....my guess is they could also change that 6 into a 1 and make 411 wsm brass quite easily
