has anyone just plain and simply necked the 300H&H to 7mm?

What would its neck length be?

I'm sure it's been done but I don't know what it's called. It'd more or less be a real wimpy 7mm STW (since the 8mm Rem Mag is nothing more than a blown out 300 H&H with the shoulder moved forward).

Might not be as fast as the STW, but far more efficient,and no less than a a7mmRm,in fact maybe more,and with a GS custom 130gnHV bullet, probably one of the best long range sheep rounds around. Nothing would feed smoother than thatH&H case.

Well the 30-338, 308Norma and 300H&H capacities are withing a grain or two of each other. The 7mag is simply a 7-338 so I would assume that the 7-300 would be basically the same capacity.

I think you're looking at the 280 Dubiel Magnum from the last Century.. Neck length on it is about one caliber (.284").

I always thought a 270 H&H would be cool. I may have to build one some day.

The 275 H&H actually uses a .287" bullet (Woodleigh or Hawk makes them) on a 2.5" case. I believe the 7mm Mashburn Super Magnum was the first to neck down the 300 H&H without shortening the case length. Mashburn also had a 7mm Mashburn Mag almost identical to the 275 H&H, except using .284" diameter bullets.

I've been thinking about that cartridge for one of my projects. The feeding would be more smooth than the stw or 7 remmag.

I don't have the diagrams in front of me (and I shouldn't since I'm at my office) but isn't a 7mm Weatherby a 300 H&H case with their famous rounded shoulder? Wouldn't ballistics be about the same?

7mm Weatherby is shortened. The 7x300 Wby would be what you are thinking of, I believe.
