I am surely late to show up in this game. For the first time last friday I saw a 22WSSM. Who else thinks this ctg needs the 40 degree shoulder and move the shoulder forward?

They look pathetic.

Love shooting precision and long range. Big bores too!

Tyler, when you're a little older you'll learn to appreciate the saying "Pretty is as pretty does." We honor the Lebel because it was the first successful smokeless powder rifle cartridge. The Lebel rifle though, that was ugly!

Good luck on the third try on your ACTS!

SR4759Properly compared to it's contemporaries the 8MM Lebel was a real beauty.

willimon1I was wondering about the 204 ruger? Can it be done?
28 February 2009, 21:47
nordrseta45/70. It wouldn't do anything differently, it would just look cooler doing it.

nordrsetaThe 9.3x74R could use a facelift. I've seen mention of it being done at least once and the resulting 'cat ran faster than the 9.3x64. Imagine the 338x74 Keith "necked up" to .366.

Tyler KempHow the heck do you ackley the 45-70?

drewhenrytntGood question Tyler. I have no idea, unless someone out there is not familiar with Ackleyrizing. The only thing that comes to mind is maybe.... is there more than 15 degrees of taper in the 45-70? Is it possible to create a shoulder?
Great luck on your third ACT try! They say the third times the charm!!

I was mostly kidding but there is a wildcat 475 that is simply the 45/70 blow out straight. If you can imagine necking it down to 458 you can have sharp little shoulder, let's say about where a Hornady 350 grain soft stops. Like I said it won't do anything better, it will just look better doing it. When do you take the ACT again?

Tyler KempHopefully April. I'm taking College Algebra and Trigonometry this year, it should boost my math scores.
My reading was a 36 and my english was a 35, so if I can keep those where they are and improve math I should get 31. The science is pretty tricky as it's just some retarded graphs that make no sense to me.

nordrsetaSounds like you have a solid plan. What school do you plan to attend with scores like that? You seem like a sharp kid; good luck to you.

The science portion is ridiculous. I had similar scores in the reading and english and my math was a 29, but the 23 in the science kept me from a 30. Good luck!

Tyler KempUnless I get a full ride somewhere I'll be going to Mizzou, my dad is a professor there. Missouri S&T has a better engineering program, but I prefer girls at any college I go to...

ShortandFatThe 375H&H and the 416 Rigby cases have the OLD shape and taper, they would definately benefit from having the sides and shoulders blown out

The 375 Weatherby is an improved (but not "Ackleyerized") H&H, but you must have a different 416 Rigby down under; us gringos can buy one that looks very modern right off the shelf.

.530WoodleighAll of the old Mauser cases-6.5, 7 and 8mm. They could also use a treatment of "Gibbs", that is moving the shoulder forward. The .30-06 and all of it's kids could be blown-out a bit for better head-space, longer case life and a bit more capacity. A .280 Gibbs is damn-close to a 7mm Rem. Mag. and less powder, both with a 26" tube. I could go on and on, the .223 and .308 would be very little gain. My next candidate would would be the .22-250...200 fps, how about the .30-30? My all-time favorite would be the .35 Rem. Improve it and load it to actual SAAMI specs...holy hell wouldn't it be a killer?

homebrewerI think Ackleys are rather unattractive. That says nothing about how they perform-- which is what it's all about, anyway. It's just my eye overriding my mind...

In the AI version this cartridge looks better, I think...
And the performance is there too...

dwheelsAll of the 308 and it's offspring with their sloping shoulders, add the hornet and the 30-30. What else? DW

Gotta ask. Do you have a 8x68S?
I have a 6,5x68 AI.
Where do you get your brass? My suppliers all dried up.
By the way, the 8x68S was a 8MM REM Mag before there was a 8MM Rem Mag.
If you look fairly close the 375 Ruger shares a lot of case demensions with the Schuler case.
Best wishes, Bill

PiviThe 6.5 x 68 AI should look like the italian wildcat 6.5 mm SDG
It is a 6.5 x 68 "improved" with a sharp shoulder
( there's also a very similar .270" cartridge developed by Giani and Sabatti and called 277 GS)
Look at my sample dimensional data for comparison
