MtnHtrPablo,
I posted a similiar thread on the same subject a year ago? I did a search for you.

P.S. I live just up the road from you off Franklin Rd. Are you a 'smith? I'm still looking for someone local who knows how to use a lathe.

MtnHtrOops,
I was afraid that. Punch in "338 12 twist" on the search feature using all forums as choices. Should bring up some past threads.

<Pablo>Mtn,
What kind of lathe work do you need, I might be able to find time, being retired I give interesting projects first priority.

<Speedy>I spoke to Dan Lilja at SCI about this very subject. His opinion was if a person was going to stay with 225 or lighter bullets 1 in 12" twist should work well.

RottenendI had a .338-08 AI built last year w/a 1-12" Douglas. The small case dictated lighter bullets, which is why I went w/the slower twist. It shoots 180 gr Nosler BT's at around 1" with various loads. I have some 210 grain Partitions ready to go, but haven't made it to the range yet.
