Cops were doing quals at the range today and making a mess of the target frames so I decided to go home and shoot air rifles and .22s. Had this R10 about twentyish years now. Still a German built tack driver. Put 500 HN match through it with iron sights and it still hits everything I shoot at and will make tin cans dance all day long. She might get a birthday present (being as I got her around thanksgibbon of late 80s) of a re-blue.

Put a lot of meat in the pot and a lot of holes just where I wanted in papers and silhouettes over the years. Can't recall what I gave for her new, but she was worth it. Bit of oil and blueing and somebody will be driving nails with it 50 years from now after I've passed off this earth.

Buy quality and you won't be sorry.

Could have used an Oily rag once in a while, then it woludn't even need an overhaul.

I actually have blueing tanks. The old story of "the cobbler's kids going barefoot..." But I always have looked after the bore and mechanicals.

I'll look into it, but I wore a lot of that finish just plain off purely mechanically by the number of times it's been broken open to reload with sweaty hands...

Ya the weak spot of the German guns is that dark blue it's is bad for that.
Looks great new but will rust in no time. Unless you are rubbing it down all the time.

Bit over 20 years ago I was more interested in rubbing down things named Jennifer and Sarah and my maintenance lapsed. =]
