G.I. bore cleaner

G.I. bore cleaner
Just acquired some G.I. bore cleaner has anyone here used it, smells a little like sweets 7.62. , any do's or don'ts .

I'm not sure what you have. Post pic and maybe we can comment. If it's the old G.I. bore cleaner in the green can, there are much better products available and if the can is in good condition there may be some collector value to it.

Mike, are you referring to RBC (Rifle Bore Cleaner)? The little bottles I have are titled: "Cleaning Compound, Rifle Bore" and are marked MIL-PRF-372D.

We used to get cans of RBC when I was an armorer in an tank company many moons ago, but hardly used it. We mostly used CLP (Break-Free) for everything from machine guns to tank gun tubes.

If the bore cleaner comes in small flask like can, OD green, the fluid is dark brown and smells like.. something awful, it's a great carbon cleaner. Not sure it has any other use.
