Which rod do you use?

Probably a repeat post but just was curious as to all the different answers I would get. I use the Tipton's Carbon fiber rod.

I have both Dewey and Bore Tech. Of the two, I prefer the Bore Tech. The bearings in the handle are better, and the jag doesnt come loose constantly. Going on its fourth your, it still looks and performs like new.

I use Dewey because it's the best rod locally available. If I had what I would prefer I'd have what you have. Why? The fiber rods have one of two condiditons; straight or broken. Right now, mine is slighly bent and I seem to be unable to striaighten it preoperly. Guess it's time to order a Tipton Carbon Fiber!

I use Deweys exclusively. I have one for wet-patching with a jag on it, one for the brush and one with an eyelet on it for swabbing out the chamber. I have them in both .30 and .22 calibers. They cost about $35 each, but it's damned convenient to not have to be constantly changing the tips...

Does anyone still use the steel 3 piece rods like comes in the Outers kits? I can't imagine running a steel rod up and down inside the bore of any of my rifles.

I picked up a Tipton for my buddy's 308 when I was at Bass Pro. We used it at the range and I did like it. It had a good feel, but what I noticed was that my Boretechs have a better feel to me. Maybe it's b/c I'm just to use to them. The tipton was 39.99.

I use Tipton carbon, Hoppes carbon and Dewey. I bought a Dewey to try it, but it bends and so on, so it will be my first and last Dewey. Bending is no problem with a carbon rod. The best rods are in my opinion Tipton´s carbon.

BRASS rods!

I use Marble´s, which have that PITA front swivel, but they are stiff and all else really good!

Hoppe´s as a second one - BRASS, of course!

Avoid Outerts rods - small ones have the "wrong" thread, larger ones are HEAVY and still wobble - they are NOT Stiff!

the problem with 3 piece rods is getting them straight.
With a bore guide and a proper sized brush or patch, the rod shouldn't touch the side of the bore.
BTW, I've got Dewey and Tiptons

I have had 3 Tipton Rods, Graphite, tip came off one, they replaced, no chg. grip came apart, replaced no chg, broke, wuold not stand behind as was over a yr. old. When I first got they had lifetime guarentee, but that changed to 1 year. These were for .17 cal. I have Pro Shot now, but bent 1 of those, in .17, ! Dewey .17 bent. Have 2 Dewey .22 for 15 yrs. no problems, 1 Pro Shot .22, no problems. I think .17 cal. rods from any mfg. is prone to problems because of small dia.

Tipton carbon fibre for everything over .17 & a Dewey for that.
I agree with Hector on the .17 rods & heard of more than one carbon rod failure, hence the steel Dewey & due diligence when using.
When cleaning the FALs I use a multi piece rod out of a surplus cleaning kit because it's there & it works.

I use all Dewey rods for rifles and handguns. Tipton for the shotguns. Pro-Shot, Tipton and Dewey for jags and brushes. Pro-Shot patches when they're available.

My dewey rod the jags and brushes all unscrew

My Bore Tech rod is way beter. Heavy handle(works like a heavy pool cue) and great bearings, jags and brushes stay screwed on

Let's see what you think of this! ALL CARBON FIBER RODS ARE A POS. They are very abrasive and many have shattered. A few people have been impaled when they shattered.
I use IVY and Pro Shot uncoated rods. I use TK Nolan's bore saver rod guides and Lucas. They are the most important things. Competition shooters are the most anal of rifle cleaners. The only carbon fiber rods that you see will be owned mainly by rookies.
I can already tell this is going to end up in a pissing match and I'm just going to the sidelines and watch.

Please tell me how carbon fibre is harder than carbon steel & thus able to abrade a rifle barrel.
If people have been impaled on shattered carbon fibre rods then there would at the very least be ongoing litigation we would know about.

Would you care to tell where you get these "facts" from?

Your are not smart enough to know how carbon fiber is abrasive. Why should I fool with you? Why don't you! do a search on the various gun forums and find out for yourself. If you choose not to do that and just want to joust on the forum, that is your privilege.
