Hunter killed by unwounded buffalo

This is the danger in previously wounded or native pressured buffalo that charge unprovoked out of the thorn bush.
There was no time or way to get a helicpter into the site. Also no way to saw the horn off in time as the hunter was fully impaled.

Of all the potential African hunting dangerous game incidents, this is when a double rifle in .470 NE or larger comes into its own.
The buffalo was finished by the PH, but too late to save the hunter.

Very sad to hear this.

First shot that counts, regardless of caliber.

How many times have we seen videos of people using 600 and not managing to kill anything.

Wounding animals and chasing them all day!

Bullet placement is the most important part, not the size of the bullet.

It was an unwounded animal.

I don’t see how any comment on gun bore or placement of shot is relevant.

It sounds like somewhat pressured animals (SA likely behind wire) and an unlucky or bad approach and a charge at point blank distance.

It’s a risk when hunting buffalo, although there could be more to it than that.

It sounded like they were hunting buffalo, and for whatever reason the hunting party was surprised and the hunter hit.

I always thought the hunter was assuming some of this risk…

You are talking about common sense and people taking responsibility for their actions.

But, with so many of the human vermin around, they need to be fed!
