8 days in elephant paradise, the Nyae Nyae
Just got back from hunting a non-trophy bull elephant in the Nyae Nyae Conservancy. A full report will come later but I am so pumped up I wanted to share a little bit first. In 6 days of hunting, we saw 55 BULLS, one 75#,one 70# and 60# to 65# were common.

We are 6' and 6' 1" to give you some idea of how HUGE these bulls are.

Well done!

Magic simply Magic.
You can't truly understand if you have never hunted elephants and if you have I don't believe that you ever completely recover.

Pictures like those will sweep your mind back so powerfully that you can't stop it from registering big feelings that were triggered so intensely by seemingly small things like how the sun felt on your skin and how small you knew you were when you leaned against Your elephant.

Els, you are exactly right. I went on my first elephant hunt in 2008, a tuskless, to get it out of my system. This was my 7th elephant and I can't wait till the next one. There is something special about following those big tracks and seeing the sign getting fresher, then you hear a branch break or see the trackers point, then you look through the brush and get your first glimpse of him. It makes my heart skip a beat just to think about it.

Congratulations! The "non-trophy" reference, I'm sure, is simply in reference to the tusk sizes as no doubt, to you (and to me) that is a trophy nonetheless! tu2

The guy in the 1st pic appears to be a different person from the 2 in the 2nd pic?

No doubt, this was a trophy hunt in reverse. We saw bulls on day one and three that Stephan said would qualify for a non-trophy but we were looking for "the perfect bull". He had to be OLD with broken or thin tusks. It was a true elephant hunt in every aspect.

I should have put more info. The Nyae Nyae is in Namibia on the eastern border with Botswana. It's northern border is Khaudom National Park and is just south of the Caprivi.

Yes it is. He gave it up 4 years ago and Stephan has been hunting it since.
