Hey, I thought you were a double rifleman?
What can I say, I opted for firepower and I was glad that I did. I told Buzz, I ain't going to stop shooting until the magazine is empty. The video makes it sound like I had an automatic rifle.
Mike,
Thanks for the info on Mbogo .458 loads. Can't wait to try them! John LaSala of Safari Arms makes up a similar load, maybe slightly higher velocity.
I think an important point with 'which rifle to use', be it a question of double or bolt action, .400, .500 or .600 calibre, etc., is "do you love that weapon?" To enjoy handling and to use regularly the rifle of one's choice means one will have confidence in it and will shoot well with it.
Richard.

MacD37Great safari Mike! Man that is a real hog of a leopard! Hope you bring a copy of the video to the next 4K hunt, so you can narrate it!
Richard Harland is a nice man, and one I'd love to hunt with someday!

MJinesThanks Mac. I have almost five hours of video for those that suffer from serious insomnia. The tapes are being converted by Buzz's editor and copied onto CDs at the present time. I may end up having the footage edited too to condense the footage down to a more viewable amount. That said, I am looking forward to watching the full footage to see what all we have on tape. We have the leopard at the bait on tape but he was moving off when I shot and is just outside of the frame.
Amen to your comments on Richard, a very humble, unassuming gentlemen for someone of his accomplished background.

MJines, that is a leopard of a lifetime.
I bought Buzz' ele hunting dvd and I've practically forgotten about buff. Now hunting ele, and tuskless at that, is all I want to do, and with him! Nothing I'd like better than to spend days in and out of all those herds, shouting down cows and running backwards.
Showbart,
It warms my heart to hear you say that. Only danger is, not just the cow elephants, but the addiction that can develop! This is hunting for hunting's sake - no trophies, no tape measures, no competition other than that between yourself and a bunch of huge, intelligent, courageous beasts, on their terms and on their turf.
A bonus is that tuskless cows are a relatively high proportion of the population in the Zambezi valley area and can safely be reduced by hunters. In fact they could be probably be increased on the quotas.
Go for it!!
Richard Harland.

MJinesI just finished watching two of the four plus hours of video that were shot on my hunt. I would strongly encourage anyone considering a trip to Africa to have your hunt videoed. My video cost me $100/day. It was well worth it. Pictures are great, but the video is a superb way to relive the hunt. My only regret is that I did not have my first two hunts in Africa videoed too. I encourage you to strong consider having your hunt videoed you will not regret it.
