I use the plastic MTM cases that hold 20 rounds each....each is slos marked with all the pertinent data as well as my name. I use a strip of duct tape to make sure the lid doesn't come loose.

My father used the plastice cases with some tape to keep them closed. I left my ammo in the factory boxes. I locked them in the rifle case and never had a problem or question about them.

Ahmed:

There was a recent discussion along these lines on the "African Hunting" forum.

Try the search function or go back a couple of weeks.

There was, I recall, a number of opinions and preferences. I use a Pelican 1200 case that is extremely rugged and lockable but somewhat bulky.

I used a locking metal cash box from Office Depot, cost about $10 and worked fine. All the airline folks wanted to see was that it locked. Bob

Ahmed,

I have used the 20 round plastic MTM containers then put them into a military type ammo box. The MTM boxes fit perfect sideways in the ammo can and keep the tops tightly closed. Also put other potential breakables in there, small flashlight, travel alarm clock, multiband radio, then pack everything very tight with socks or gloves or such.

You want to use a light case, since the airlines are wont to weigh the case withe the ammo.

I use a plastic PLANO pistol case and a converted wooden make-up case bought at a garage sale. Both lock and both work.

I did have to break the mirror in the lid of the make up case. Seven years of bad luck haven't started yet!

All you need is the factory boxes.

On my trip to Namibia this spring, I left the ammo in the original factory boxes and used strapping tape to secure them. This seems to be what the airlines wanted. I have seen kits in army surplus stores to convert GI ammo cans to be able to lock. Might be a cheap option if you want to lock it up.
