MARK H. YOUNGRECENT HUNT REPORT ON C9 IN MOZAMBIQUE C9 AND C14 PIX ADDED
Folks,
Below are the thoughts from one of my clients on his late Sept '24 hunt with Mokore Safaris on Coutada 9 in Mozambique.
Mark,
Thanks for reaching out. We had a blast. You were not joking, that place is loaded with game. The drought and time of year seems to be taking its toll on some of the weaker animals, but regardless, there are just a ton of animals….. literally the most I’ve seen on 7 safaris.
Sable, Oribi, Impala, warthogs, kudu, waterbuck, nyala, and eland were seemingly everywhere. Seen, but not as frequently, Suni, Duiker, buffalo and zebra.
Based on conversations Neil and I had, the lion are taking a toll on mature kudu bulls. We saw several lion kills specifically on kudu bulls. It’s a shame the lions can’t be imported to the US, it sounds like C9 has far too many of the beasts. The skinning shed definitely had some nice kudu, so they are there for sure.
Staff was impeccable…. The food was fantastic. Accommodations were clean and as expected. The camp location with water hole was pretty cool. Enjoyed that a lot.
The animals I took were all mature, quality animals…… yeah that bush buck was a whopper! My shooting was good hugely aided by the newfangled shooting sticks Neal and Gary use, so happy with that.
Mozambique has some great waterbuck
This one is a definite Wow!
What's the chances of getting two of these guys together?
One the most beautiful trophies in Africa
One of many in C9
As usual, Neal and Gary were a ton of fun to be with…… The Duckworth family understand the entertainment component to the overall experience. We greatly enjoyed that.
Observations that were interesting/different.
• The remoteness – that was cool- even in remote places I’ve hunted like the Luangwa Valley, there were still photo camps in a park adjacent to us…… the locals in Mufwe on the Luangwa were used to seeing tourists, but not near C9. That made it pretty special – we all want to hunt places like in the old days….. C9 provides that.
• Given the above, the officials in Tete airport are used to dealing with mining people, etc. No idea of tourism…… not bad, just an observation. Zio (gun handling) is a necessity for hunters coming though Tete in my opinion.
Knowing the history of C9 and all the Duckworths have done only adds to my opinion that they are truly conservationists and a company I’ll continue to support.
It made our trip longer, but Vilanculous was a great way to get over jet lag and see another relatively undeveloped area. I say underdeveloped compared to other beach destinations.
On the Travel part- I know you and Sadie didn’t organize that, but I’ll share our thoughts on our flights so you can perhaps share with other clients. We flew Qatar from Houston through Doha and onto Joberg. Qatar Airlines is unbelievable and highly recommend. With that said, just like flying through Europe, it’s a long way to go.. But in the future, I’ll look to Delta or United nonstop to Joberg,
Overall, in terms of quality of experience, a 10 plus. Only regret is I wish I had spent the extra money on this hunt in 2022, but that’s on me … live and learn.
Please use me as a reference for Mokore.
Thanks

bwanajayWell done, Mark! I hunted C11 & 12 many moons ago and had a proper safari. Everyone should hunt Moz at least once in their life.

MARK H. YOUNGJay,
Agreed! Two buffalo in totally different areas and four of the spiral horns on one 12 day safari is hard to beat.

Yes on both accounts. The Elephant was an old broken tusk bull and the Lion was taken, "walk and stalk" with a good dose of sports at the end.

MARK H. YOUNGIt's not really a problem. It just takes awhile. I've not had any real issues with my clients.
