Terry BlauwkampSemi Auto's in RSA
Ran into a fellow last night that just returned from a RSA hunt.
Seems he did not know about that taking a Rem 742 was a no-no.
Arriving in Jo Berg, the gun was seized, and he was told he could pick it up on the way out home.
The worst part was, the way the Police officer treated him. Just purely "bad".
They had to change their flight into JNB to an earlier flight in order to have the time to collect the rifle instead of just changing planes to ATL.
This change cost them $350 besides the ass chewing he got.
So, let the client beware of such things as semi-autos.

Mike SmithHe is lucky that is all he got. It could have been worse. I dont understand how anyone going could not know that it is prohibited. He certainly didnt do any research. Worse, his ph and or booking should have made him aware as well.

kudu56With the $350 extra costs and hassle, I would have left the 742. Thats about all they are worth anyway. I am surprised the folks on the U.S. side didn't hassle him to.

476NEAmen to that Kudu, but wonder on the value part.

Jaco HumanIt is not the PH's job to inform him but the hunting outfitter.

Mike SmithOR all the above as many times the outfitter is the ph.

BFaucettSpeaking of semi-auto rifles, has anyone noticed the BAR
Safari model in Browning's catalog?

From Browning's web site:
Receiver:
The Safari model uses a one-piece, ordinance steel receiver that is richly blued with scroll engraving and drilled and tapped for scope mounts. Stalker, ShortTrac and LongTrac models have an aircraft-grade, aluminum alloy receiver, drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The bolt release lever is incorporated into the receiver.
Sights:
On open sight models: click adjustable rear sight. Front sight is a gold bead design dovetailed into a hooded ramp. BOSS supplied on no-sight models only.

"...let the client beware of such things..." No sympathy from me. The guy just didn't do any research.
