SBTGreat hunt Larry, but you're killing me. We leave for Malapati early Sunday morning and I'd love to see your photos.

bronxfatsLooking forward to more of the story and pics; I need to finish my report of my Save lion and others hunt in 7/09, as well.My experience with leopard was tours; females hitting all baits. Big males would walk on by; the big boys who are not killed when hunted over bait or are run with dogs from bait(and escape) seldom fall for for baits again.Perhaps the Save leopard quota needs to be trimmed. Good work. Jim

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

BwanamichThat's a heck of a bag for 18 days!! Well done.
Can someone explain the "giraffe (bait)" one for me? Are bait animals sold at a lower trophy fee, no trophy fee, or full trophy fee? And who decides which are "bait" or "trophy" - is it based on the hunters trophy wish list and everything else is "bait" animals?

Use Enough GunIn my experience you only pay the full trophy fee on an animal taken for bait, if you are going to keep the horns/hide, etc. Otherwise, you are paying a bait fee as set by your PH. That is what I have experienced. As an example, I shot a big Kudu for leopard bait once that turned out to be 59 1/2 inches on one horn and 58 1/2 inches on the other, which second horn had lost over two inches. I decided to keep the trophy portions and paid the trophy fee, even though we used it for leopard bait. I have done the same thing with a couple of giraffe as well.

bronxfatsI had no intention of taking a giraffe on a recent lion hunt in the Save, but lion love giraffe and one giraffe yields 5 big baits.......the neck and 4 quarters. 5 zebra or one giraffe was the rule of thumb. Shot 2 giraffe and decided to keep the backskin on the big "black" bull. The price went from the 750 bait fee to 1250. The second was priced at750 as nothing was taken by me......fair. I was impressed with the strength of the giraffe, his grace and speed and the shot placement and knockdown power required to put one down. Everybit as tough as a buffalo. Reviewing the Perfect Shot is essential. A true and noble trophy. Jim
