Fantastic,

I bet you are using the same formula to estimate the weight that I was(lenght outside the lip in feet x circumfrence at the lip in inches - 5 for weight in pounds).

I think these tusks picked up that extra 10 pounds due to the fact that they carry their weight all the way out.

I am amazed at the number of +-100 bulls that are being taken today after hearing true experts saying that 100 pounders were a thing of the past.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

Here is something for conversation..I pulled the link below off Rich Cooke's website. These pictures are from earlier this year..you have to scroll down about halfway to a picture of a big elephant they photographed in the park..it is circled. It looks pretty close to the one Martin's client took..what do you all think?

The funny thing was in camp in Ngamo Tini was trying to shoot a tuskless and after looking at over 1000 eles we joked that it was "harder to find a tuskless then a 100lbs".

Well he got his tuskless and then got his 100lbs on the next hunt!!! A product of good luck and timing but with out doubt also darn hard work and fine PHing!

Safari2- You are right! It looks like the same bull to me! So good to see some great bulls been shot this year! As far as I am concerned the main reason is that we had bad rains in the N-West region and the eles are having to move alot for food as the prime browsing/ grazing is hard to come by in the park.

Congratulations to Tini!

I got to have lunch with him and my PH Pierre, at the Rugby Club there in Bulawayo while we were waiting for SAA to find my rifle back in 2011.

Perhaps this adds a little more information.I had a campfire side chat with Eduardo Linares who was the booking agent and was on this hunt. His rendition is that they met some women from the local village. The client said 'give them some money and ask if there are elephants'. "Yes, Yes there are elephants that have been coming every day" They then went to the spot and later heard the elephants coming through the thick growth and dropped this trophy. Initially they did not think it was this heavy. The second tusk would likely would have been bigger but had been injured and had a split in it, assumed to be from a bullet. As this is second hand information I can only attest to the reportage as it was told to me.
