Yes, the meat was all utilized.
Glad folks enjoyed seeing this.
Did you taste the meat? if you did, was it any good?

Meat is meat and a source of protein to the indigenous people. While some may be more or less palatable to us spoilt Westerners accustomed to prime cuts of beef and lamb among others, they hardly care about taste or whether it came from an Elephant, Civet Cat or Cane Rat. The only animals that I have yet heard to be consumed by the locals is Hyena and Vulture.

crbutlerYes I did eat some, I liked it quite a bit.
Similar to hippo, but milder to my tastes. I would certainly eat it again if offered.

Thunder Headcongratulations,
Completing the big 5 is definitely an achievement these days.
I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

DuckearSo, canned rhino, what's next, clubbing a baby seal?
Haha, just kidding,of course, but I didn't want you to be disappointed that no one took you to task for your rhino.

Black LechweCongrats on the rhino, no issue with that...
...but, on the Grey Rhebuck, perhaps I've understood it wrong but it sounds like it was left wounded for others to pick up because follow-up shots might hit the horns?

crbutlerThe animal was down, and the guys on horses were close enough to grab him before we could get off the hill. He was moving his head around a bit when I stopped shooting, not leave an animal in the bush for hours. We started down the mountain and the farmers had him posed before we got to where he was shot. I was shooting a bit high due to the severe downward angle that I forgot to correct for.

Very well done on completing your big five with such a superb animal. Great to see those who are prepared to support these conservation efforts in RSA.
Admirable.
