We just started our hunt with Tinashe Outfitters in South Africa yesterday and our friend took this huge waterbuck. I've never seen one so wide.

sheephunterabFinally home from South Africa and back to the land of internet. We spent a month over there and hunted out of three different camps. The first was a five-star lodge in the Kalhari...Tinashe Outfitters. The lodge and service was absolutely outstanding and the hunting was tough in the heavy bushvelt. Friends came with us and took impala, steenbuck, waterbuck, gemsbok, springbok, kudu and yes a ranch lion.
We hunted black wildebeest, kudu, impala and cape buffalo.
Several friends showed up half way through our hunt and took cape buffalo, kudu, gemsbok, waterbuck, sable and the one fellow took, yes a ranch lioness on foot, stalking with his bow.
Save the preaching on the ranch lions for another thread. Everyone was adults that went and knew what they were getting into. It's a big property with super dense cover and lions are released well ahead of the hunt. That's my last word on that.
The drought in the Kalahari is very severe and plains game animal numbers were down a bit but we still had plenty to hunt. This hunt was as much about hunting as is was about relaxing around a fire at night with good friends and drinking great wine. The food was out of this word and the accommodations were incredible. For a couple's destination it's hits the mark dead on. I'll share the rest of trip in another thread.

sheephunterabIt's a custom built/painted 375 H&H with Defiance action and McMillan Stock. It was built by Rocky Mountain Rifles. I was shooting 250-grain GMX handloads traveling a little over 2800fps. The scope is a 2.5-10 Zeiss HT.
